The couple live in the Campbell and Amenábar area of Rosario, a city on the west bank of the Paraná River in Santa Fe province. The cause of the fire has not been determined. For now they sleep in a neighbour's house. One neighbour said they are very shaken. The family is trying to keep their stay in the temporary house short, because the smell of the fire has not gone away.
Their neighbours did not wait for a charity or the city to act. People who had never met Cecilia and Lucio came to clear the debris and plan the rebuilding. They are offering their own labour. What they lack are the materials: drywall panels, paint, cables, outlets and switches.
Juan, one of the volunteers, explained the problem to the local outlet Rosario3.
A resident named Roxana is coordinating the collection. She gathers the donated materials and the money, and she has published her phone number so that donors can arrange contributions with her directly.
That direct contact has turned out to matter. Soon after the appeal spread, a transfer alias that the organisers had not authorised began to circulate around the neighbourhood. In Argentina, an alias is a short text label that stands for a bank account. The organisers have asked everyone to check the details with them before sending any money.
The work is on hold until the materials arrive. The volunteers are ready to start again once they do.
